No Fix No Fee at Red Barcode Planet means: free diagnostic on every device, free return shipping if we cannot repair it, and zero charge if the device is beyond economical repair. Applies to every brand — Zebra, Honeywell, Motorola, Intermec, and Datalogic — every repair type, no exceptions.

No Fix No Fee means exactly what it says: if we cannot fix your barcode scanner cost-effectively, you pay nothing. Not for the diagnostic. Not for the time spent assessing the device. Not for return shipping. Zero.

Most barcode scanner repair shops charge a bench fee — typically $25–$75 — regardless of whether they can repair your device. Red Barcode Planet does not. No Fix No Fee is not a promotion — it is our standard operating policy on every device we receive.

What No Fix No Fee actually covers

    • Free diagnostic: Every device receives a full diagnostic assessment — fault identification, repair determination, economic viability check. Costs nothing regardless of outcome.
    • Free quote before any work begins: If we can repair the device, we send a flat-rate quote before touching anything. You approve before we proceed.
    • Zero charge if we cannot repair: If the device is beyond economical repair, we notify you immediately. You pay nothing — not for the diagnostic, not for assessment, not for bench time.
    • Free return shipping on unrepairable devices: We ship the device back at our expense. You are not out a single dollar beyond the cost of shipping it to us originally.

Why most repair shops charge bench fees

Bench fees exist because diagnostics take time — 30–60 minutes per device. Most shops pass that cost to customers regardless of outcome. From a business standpoint it makes sense. From a customer standpoint: you pay $50 to find out the repair is not viable, then pay return shipping on top.

Red Barcode Planet absorbs that risk. We only collect revenue when we deliver a repaired device. No Fix No Fee is a direct statement of confidence in our ability to fix the devices we take in.

No Fix No Fee vs "free diagnostics" — the difference

Some shops advertise free diagnostics but still charge if they cannot complete the repair. The diagnostic is free; the finding that your device is unrepairable costs $40 in bench fees.

Red Barcode Planet's No Fix No Fee means the total charge for an unrepairable device is zero — diagnostic, assessment, and return shipping all included in that zero.

What happens when we cannot fix your device

    1. We assess the device and determine it is beyond economical repair.
    2. We contact you immediately with our finding and the reason.
    3. We do not proceed with any repair work.
    4. We package and ship the device back at our expense.
    5. We charge you nothing.

Devices most likely to be beyond economical repair

    • Catastrophic physical damage: Run over, submerged in liquid for extended periods, or severe motherboard damage.
    • Unavailable parts: Very old legacy devices where parts are no longer sourceable. We tell you upfront.
    • Multiple simultaneous faults: Combined repair costs approaching or exceeding refurbished replacement value. We assess the full picture and advise honestly.
    • Counterfeit or modified devices: Devices opened by unauthorized parties or fitted with non-standard components.

    Real World

    Real-World Example

A Midwest 3PL shipped 14 mixed Zebra and Honeywell devices for assessment in early 2026. Twelve were repaired and returned inside 48 hours at flat rate. Two — an MC9090 with severe liquid damage and a CT60 with a cracked motherboard — were declared beyond economical repair. Both were shipped back the same week at our expense. Total charge for the two unrepairable units: zero.

Scenario based on the type of repair work we typically perform. Not a verified case study.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

Assuming a 'free diagnostic' means no charge on unrepairable devices — most shops still bill bench time.

Paying return shipping on a device the shop already declared unrepairable.

Not asking upfront whether the shop charges a bench fee on declined repairs.

Sending legacy devices to OEMs that refuse the assessment entirely.

    What to Do Next

Ship the device. If we can fix it, we send a flat-rate quote for approval. If we cannot, we ship it back at our expense and charge nothing. Call 773-732-9018 or email krisk@redbarcodeplanet.com to start.
